Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense official has confirmed that the MoD is actively looking into the potential security risks posed by Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

In a recent interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but noted that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Defence Context

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

This broader security environment underscores the significance of strong measures and caution in all aspects of official operations, from vehicle use to discussions practices.
