Law Enforcement Actions
Border security stated that twenty-five weather balloons were spotted infiltrating Lithuania from neighboring Belarus, with a pair of them ending up right above the main terminal.

Illegal Transport Methods
When questioned about why smugglers utilize a technique that proves highly susceptible to weather conditions rather than more controllable drones, officials clarified that "Meteorological balloons are simple mechanisms used by illegal traders - they are cheaper than drones for moving tobacco products from Belarus."
Border Protection Aims
Representatives further stated that "Our services' aim is to confiscate the maximum possible amounts of illegal goods and to detain organisers and perpetrators so that this activity become unprofitable and present no risk to civil aviation."
European Tensions
These airspace violations occur during a period of growing anxiety in Europe following various aerial device infiltrations that have created aviation problems across the region.
